We have spent the last few months looking into commonly used technologies amongst HR professionals and hiring managers. One newly adapted process that has piqued our interest is video interviews. This new process screens candidates and determines whether they are viable for the role while limiting in-person interaction during these trying times.
These video interviews are self-recorded. Candidates are sent a link and provided a set of questions to record their responses within a given time frame. Candidates have time to review the questions and practice their answers but only have one opportunity to record themselves speaking. There are many negative perceptions attached to this method. Some hiring managers worry that candidates will be deterred by the process, perhaps causing them to make negative assumptions about the company. Video interviews should not be confused with live-online videos, which are done in real-time between a hiring manager and a candidate using video communication platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
